Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety & Depression

Living with anxiety or depression can affect nearly every aspect of daily life. Many people have trouble concentrating, low energy, disrupted sleep, muscle tension, and a general sense of feeling overwhelmed. These challenges can impact work, relationships, and overall quality of life.

While mental health conditions require appropriate medical and behavioral health support, physical stress within the body can often contribute to discomfort, tension, and reduced well-being. Many individuals seek chiropractic care as part of a broader wellness plan designed to support their overall health.

Spinal restrictions, poor posture, chronic muscle tension, and physical stress may contribute to feelings of discomfort and fatigue. By focusing on spinal mobility, movement patterns, and musculoskeletal function, chiropractic care may help patients feel more comfortable and better able to participate in healthy daily activities.

Our goal is to help patients improve physical function, reduce tension, and support a healthier lifestyle while working alongside their healthcare team. Every care plan is tailored to the individual's needs, goals, and overall health status.

How We Treat Anxiety & Depression in Newark, DE

While conditions can manifest differently across people, many treatment options are still available to address Anxiety & Depression. This is our approach to treatment of these health conditions.

Anxiety & Depression Care

Comprehensive Consultation and Exam

A full consultation and check-up of a patient with anxiety and depression by a chiropractor involves a complete approach starting with meticulous medical history to know their biological and psychological conditions. The chiropractor carries out an extensive physical examination keen on the spine and the nervous system to detect any misalignments or tension that cause anxiety or depression. In some cases, diagnostic tools like X-rays or MRIs can be used for more precise information. The chiropractor also looks at stressors, sleep patterns, diet, exercise, etc., which make up the patient’s lifestyle. Results are shared with the patient on how mental wellness is determined by spinal health as such an individualized intervention strategy is agreed upon; it blends spinal adjustment therapy with soft tissue manipulation techniques plus changes in their lifestyles as well as other possible connections with mental health professionals for collaboration of care.

Specific Chiropractic Care

Chiropractors offer an array of services to help people who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression, including:

  • Massage Therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Whole Body Health
  • Chiropractic Adjustments

By optimizing the nervous system, the brain is better able to manage hormone regulation and battle the underlying causes of stress and anxiety, like chronic pain and fatigue. Chiropractic care is also effective in improving sleep quality and quantity, which reduces stress and boosts immunity.

Custom Therapeutic Exercise Plan

In treating anxiety and depression, a chiropractor can develop a custom therapeutic plan that is very effective. Life is motion, and usual physical exercises like walking or yoga may bring down stress levels and lift moods. Move on to the next paragraph. The endorphins released during these workouts enhance moods, reduce stress hormones and improve self-esteem in people. The exercise programs are then tailored by chiropractors to fit into the needs of an individual so that they attain optimal mental health. Staying active also supports healing from physical injuries while maintaining joint health which further facilitates improved mental and physical well-being of patients. As such, it guarantees that the exercises are not above the capacity or objectives of the patient.

Anxiety & Depression Care

Nutritional Guidance

Eating a healthy diet can promote overall mental and physical health. A balanced diet with plenty of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean protein can help support a healthy lifestyle. An anti-inflammatory diet combats disease and illness, common causes of stress and anxiety, and aids in the body’s natural healing process.

Dr South is very professional and sincerely cares about his patients. He has eliminated my migraines and continues to improve issues with my neck and back. I had an elderly dog who could hardly walk and I took him to the vet three times in two weeks. They gave me prescriptions that were not helping, then recommended a chiropractor. I was surprised they recommended Dr South, already my chiropractor! One visit and he was walking pretty normal. After the second visit he was running and playing like a puppy. We had another three years of quality life thanks to Dr South. I'm so grateful to have him in my life!

Common Causes of Anxiety & Depression in Newark, DE

Genetics

Genetics may play a role in the development of anxiety and depression. Mental health disorders run in families, and if someone has close relatives with these mental conditions, they may be at greater risk for developing one of these conditions themselves. People with a family history of mental illness must check for signs and symptoms to get early treatment if required.

Substance Abuse

Substance abuse leads to changes in the brain that can make it difficult to cope with everyday stressors. Substance abuse is linked to an increased risk of developing anxiety. Substance abuse can lead to feelings of guilt, shame, and isolation. It can also increase the risk of developing other mental health issues.

Stress

Stress can lead to feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, and despair. Stressful life events such as a major illness, the death of a loved one, or financial troubles can increase the risk of developing these conditions. It is essential to find healthy ways to cope with stress.

Stress, whether mental, emotional, or physical, begins to take a toll on our health when it exceeds our body’s capacity to adapt. Chiropractic care can increase our body’s innate ability to react to stress and improves hormonal regulation. Chiropractic adjustments release serotonin and endorphins, our body’s natural mood enhancers.

Environmental Factors

Environmental factors such as poverty, poor living conditions, discrimination, lack of access to medical care, having a traumatic childhood, or growing up in an unstable home can increase the risk. Exposure to violence can also increase the risk.

These environmental factors can lead to feelings of insecurity and fear. It is essential to find healthy ways to cope with these difficult situations. Individuals with anxiety and depression need to have access to appropriate treatment.

Major Events

Major life events such as the death of a loved one, a divorce or break up, a new job or school, or a move to a new place can cause anxiety. These events can disrupt your lives and make you feel overwhelmed. It is important to find healthy ways to cope with these difficult situations to manage your emotions better.

Medical Condition

Certain medical conditions can contribute to anxiety and depression, such as thyroid disorder, chronic pain or fatigue, or traumatic brain injury. It is important to talk to your doctor if you think a chronic medical condition might impact your emotional well-being. Chiropractic care works to restore balance to the musculoskeletal system, combating chronic pain and triggering the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Brain Chemistry

Chemical imbalances in the brain can contribute to anxiety and depression. Various factors, including genetics, environmental factors, and lifestyle choices, can cause these imbalances. Neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine play a role in regulating mood and behavior.

If a person’s level of these neurotransmitters is off balance, it can cause anxiety and depression. Antidepressants and other medications can help restore balance in the brain, aiding in treatment. Chiropractic care optimizes the nervous system, improving hormone regulation and the brain’s ability to assess what the body needs to thrive.
